Discover the many unseen
faces of Kowloon. The tour starts with a drive through the
Kadoorie Avenue - a world of its own for the rich and famous,
and drive into the heart of Kowloon where the mass of the
population dwells. You will visit Chi Lin Nunnery for the
Tang style architecture, the Lung Cheung Road Lookout for
a panoramic view of Kowloon and to Shum Shui Po district
for the flat houses where locals live and the streets where
the locals shop.
Kadoorie Avenue
Kadoorie Avenue on a small hill is an oasis in the densely
populated Kowloon. Here you will find residences of the
rich and famous and wealthy local Tai Pans.
Chi Lin Nunnery
This 30,000 square-meter (35,880 square foot) temple complex
features spectacular Tang Dynasty-style architecture. Its
seven wooden halls were constructed using wood tenons instead
of nails. It is a Buddhism temple, managed by a group of
nuns, supported by a group of volunteers from all walks
of like riding TV including TV and movie celebrities.
Lung Cheung Road Look out Point
Stop at the lookout point on a high point in Kowloon. Overlooking
the scenic splendour of Victoria Harbour, you can see the
old Kai Tak runway and learn how the range of hills on the
Kowloon Peninsula and the running water in the harbour work
together to bring what is called “Good feng shui”
to Hong Kong as a whole.
Shum Shui Po/Shek Kip Mei public housing
Little known to many overseas visitors, Shum Shui Po is
a densely populated residential district. You can have a
close-up of the public housing provided to the local community
and get a glimpse of the lifestyle of those who live here.
Ap Liu Street Open Air Market
At the open-air market on Ap Liu Street, the latest gizmo
or gadget, the most recent game consoles, computers, cameras
and DVD players are sold here. Nearly, you can also find
alleys packed with shops selling ribbons, bows, buttons
and other items of interest. You can sometimes find antique
clocks, old coins and other collectibles, and pleasant surprises.
